New Raindrop Near Vision Inlay Eliminates the Need for Reading Glasses

The Eye Institute of West Florida is the first practice in Tampa Bay to offer the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay. Following the FDA’s approval of ReVision Optics’ Raindrop Near Vision Inlay, Dr. Robert Weinstock, Director of Cataract and Refractive Surgery at The Eye Institute of West Florida, performed the first cases in the area, correcting presbyopia and allowing patients to read without the need for reading glasses.

Over 150 million people in the United States suffer from presbyopia, a condition affecting people as they get into their 40s. Presbyopia results in the loss of clear near vision, making it difficult to read up close, such as a book, newspaper or your cell phone without reading glasses. By improving depth of focus and restoring near vision, the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay restores near vision by steepening the cornea, enabling patients to read without reading glasses.

“We’ve been following this remarkable Raindrop technology for some time, and I think it is a very effective solution designed for people who want to reduce or eliminate their reading glasses,” said Robert Weinstock, MD, Director of Cataract and Refractive Services at The Eye Institute of West Florida. “If you’re frustrated with the inability to see close-up, you should schedule a complimentary consultation with us to see if you may be a candidate for this new device.”

Ideal Raindrop candidates are between the ages of 40 and 60 and have difficulty reading small print or seeing near objects without reading glasses.

The Eye Institute of West Florida is also proud to be participating in a clinical trial for a new use for the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay. Dr. Robert Weinstock is leading the clinical trial for implanting the Raindrop in patients who have already had cataract surgery but still struggle with their near vision and depend on reading glasses to see close-up. If you are interested in learning more about participating in our clinical trial and think you may be a candidate, at no cost, please contact our Clinical Research Manager at (727) 450-4668. Candidates must have good distance vision and no previous eye health conditions.

The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is exclusively available in Tampa Bay at The Eye Institute of West Florida. To schedule your complimentary consultation, call us today at (727) 518-2020.
