Introducing the first Cataract and Cornea Surgery Fellow at The Eye Institute

The Eye Institute of West Florida is thrilled to welcome Dr. Chad Hummel to our staff! Dr. Hummel joins The Eye Institute as the first fellow in our new accredited Cataract, Refractive and Cornea Surgery Fellowship, headed by Robert J. Weinstock, M.D., Director and Neel R. Desai, M.D., Co-Director.

Dr. Hummel joins The Eye Institute after completing his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Florida, Jacksonville in June of 2015. He received his B.A. in Liberal Studies (Medical Scholars Program) from the University of Delaware in Newark, DE. Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Hummel attended Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA, where he received his Doctor of Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

The Eye Institute of West Florida is the only practice in the world with three laser platforms to help guide cataract surgery. Advanced technologies assist our physicians in customizing each individual’s cataract surgery, reducing or even completely eliminating dependency on glasses following surgery for certain patients. Dr. Hummel joins our innovative Cataract, Refractive and Cornea Surgeons to gain knowledge and training as it relates to cataract, refractive and cornea surgery. As a subspecialty practice, Dr. Hummel will be able to experience how patients of The Eye Institute of West Florida have the convenience of seeing a specialist for any of their eye care problems, all under one roof.

In Dr. Hummel’s free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, his dog and his family and friends. He is a welcome addition to The Eye Institute of West Florida, and we are fortunate to have Dr. Hummel as our initial graduate of the Cataract, Refractive and Cornea Surgery Fellowship!
